Key Terms
-
FLAG FOOTBALL is a variant of football where, instead of tackling players to the ground, the defensive team must remove a flag or flag belt from the ball carrier ("deflagging") to end a down. In flag football, contact is limited between players.
-
PADDED FLAG is designed to be “Limited-Contact” bridge game between Flag and Rookie Tackle that introduces kids to wearing pads, higher cognitive game play and light to moderate contact. Also, many parents feel it's safer having their kids wear full pads to play flag as they are getting a little older, bigger, faster and stronger.
-
ROOKIE TACKLE is part of the Football Development Model (FDM). It is a small-sided tackle football game designed to be implemented as a bridge between flag football and 11-on-11 tackle within football leagues and clubs across the country. It also serves as a child's first experience of tackling football.
-
TACKLE FOOTBALL is a full-field youth football game designed to be the final step in a league's youth football pathway before athletes enter high school sports.
Our Mission

As part of the Diocese of Cleveland CYO, our programs are rooted in the mission “to inspire young people to know God, to love God, and to serve God through athletics.” We strive to create an environment where athletes grow not only in skill and confidence, but also in character, teamwork, and faith.

A Strong, Growing Program

We are proud to be one of the larger CYO programs in the area, and with that comes a deep commitment to doing things the right way. Our coaches and volunteers focus on player development, teaching the fundamentals of each sport, and helping every child grow at their own pace. Just as importantly, we emphasize each child’s faith journey, weaving sportsmanship, prayer, and Catholic values into our practices and games.

Volunteer-Driven Program

CYO is a volunteer‑driven organization, and our programs thrive because of the dedication of parents and parishioners who step forward to serve. As we prepare for the fall season, we look forward to welcoming parent volunteers as coaches and team parents. Your involvement plays a vital role in creating a positive, faith‑centered experience for our young athletes.

Thank you for your continued support of our CYO program and
for encouraging your children to stay active, connected, and engaged.
All members of St. Joseph and Holy Spirit Parishes are eligible to participate.
